If you haven’t read it, I urge you to do so, it’s here. McChrystal has resigned and Patreaus is in. What does this mean for the future of Afghanistan and the counterinsurgency strategy? What does this mean for the fall offensive in my hometown of Kandahar? I am going to ask around and see what people on the ground have to say, but in the meantime, take a look at what the General has to say about the war.
While I hate to admit it, I think Obama did the right thing by firing the General. McChrystal made the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan look weak and disjointed (which it is, but why would you let the enemy know that?) I also think its bad form to talk shit about your boss in a major publication. So read it and let me know what you think.
What a fascinating article. I think the author slipped sodium pentathol into the General's drink in Paris. Either that or he has a brain tumor. What an unbelievably stupid move from a guy who is known for being so bright.
I would have bet a lot of money that Obama wasn't going to can him. No doubt he had every reason to do so, but I really thought that all the drama surrounding the upcoming meeting was simply a way for the Prez to look tough before not firing him and facing the inevitable criticism that he's weak. I guess I shouldn't be a gambler.
Gurwitz: Mirriam and I are part of regular poker game. On learning about your gambling skills, you are now officially invited. And bring lots of money.
I thought the General deserved to be fired. Then again, I support almost everything Obama does.
I think he should have been fired too, but not because I love Obama. Maybe even despite that. I thought Obama would wuss out, just like Mr. Gurwitz said.
