Now that I’ve only got about a week to go here in beautiful upstate NY, it seems all these old clients are coming out of the woodwork with problems and issues that should have been resolved when they first plead or were convicted or acquited or what have you. I’ve got all sorts of restitution issues, treatment providers not giving probation the required forms, and clients being moved to Attica after they’ve been raped in prison. I know, I know, all of this is confusing, so let me try to follow through on just a couple of these matters.

I’ve got several clients who owe people money – restitution. Probation doesn’t seem to understand that if there are two co-defendants and the total sum owed to victim X is 200 dollars, then all victim X should get is 200 dollars and NOT take 200 dollars from each co-defendant. They don’t get that so my client ends up paying 200 after co-defendant has paid 200 and they call me every day wondering why this is. Hmmm. . . that’s a darn fine question. Okay, then I’ve got this other client who stole car parts and put them on other cars, trucks, what have you. The sheriff rode into town and took every car or truck he had on his lot, looked up the VIN numbers and kept pretty much all of them. So fine, whatever. Well, he tries to give back the parts to the one guy who says they belong to him and the guy says no, he wants the money and probation says yeah, give him the money. What??? So he’s calling me up and saying WHAT?? And you know what? I don’t know what so I have nothing to tell him.

I just got a phone call from a client who got a pretty good result on that rape/kidnapping/sodomy that I wrote about earlier. He got moved to Attica because he got a ticket when he was in Gowanda. He just got done telling me all the gory details about how he was raped in Gowanda and how he wants to hurt himself. Now, my dilemma: Do I call the jail authorities and tell them this? Will it help his situation or will it make it worse? I don’t even know if he’s telling me the truth, but what do I do with the information that he might be suicidal? I know, I know, I have to tell the people at Attica so they can give him the appropriate treatment, but I don’t trust them. I’m afraid they will make life harder for him if they know he is vulnerable. Maybe I’m wrong?

This post already has too many words and none of them are particularly funny. So, I’ll quit now and think of something funny to write about later. See, its not my fault that I have nothing funny to say. Blondejustice’s client’s call her to tell her funny stories. Mine call to give me the rundown of prison rape.
