SCOTUS issues two that I’ve seen (in quick passing) that affect both immigration and criminal practitioners.  The first, Carachuri-Rosendo v. Holder talks about what is and isn’t an aggravated felony for cancellation purposes.  It’s got some good language for those in proceedings in drug cases (in this case, it was one Xanax tablet).

The second, Holland v. Florida holds that if your attorney in your death penalty case is incompetent, you might be able to seek some equitable relief (there’s a lot more to it that is fairly technical, but its a well written decision – albeit fairly lengthy).  I think the non-lawyers who read this blog might be interested in it as well, since it gives you a glimpse into the terrors of trial.  Yes, people might be terrible awful, but how do we know if their lawyers are worse?

Enjoy.
