Baltimore has kick ass fireworks.
Seriously. They can make you forget about the fact that you have no job, no hopes for a job, and that you gave up a perfectly good (well, good in a sucky sort of way) job for this.
Other things that make me forget about my ‘past life’:
Family guy
South Park
American Dad
Robot Chicken
Now for non-TV things that make me forget:
Tersiguels in Ellicot City
Breezes off the Bay
Fast runs in Druid Hill Park
Boordy Vineyards Sangria (already mixed in the bottle!)
Nice people showing me office space and talking to me about why Baltimore rocks and why I should stay here and open up my own practice
My new friends
My best friend
So, all in all, while the money back north was good, and I had more space, I feel like I have more emotional and mental space here and I’m not willing to give that up. That’s why the job hunt has been slow and deliberate, that’s why I’m not just going to go with whatever comes my way.
Life is short and long at the same time. It’s long when it sucks, and short when it doesn’t – so maybe you win both ways and maybe you lose. All I know is that my eye hasn’t twitched since I moved here. That’s good enough for me.
Happy Fourth of July. I actually feel independent for one.
