Big news – last night the current DA lost the Deomocratic primary. This is really unbelievable in this region since Albany is one of the last strongholds of the political machine. The current DA is rigid, uncompromising, and inflexible. He prides himself on saying “I’m a man of the 90’s, the 1890’s” He doesn’t believe in drug treatment courts, or any forms of alternatives to incarceration. In fact, he ran on a platform of having sent thousands of people to state prison. This is a good thing? It’s a good thing to lock people up with no chance for rehabilitation or recovery? It would seem to me that it would be a good thing if fewer people were going to state prison AND if violent crime was down. That’s just not the case. The current DA is very good at sending kids to state prison. Finally the people of this town have spoken and hopefully, the will continue to speak throughout the next two months. The current DA is going to run on the Independence line. Independence? Please. That is the definition of irony.

I had an awful day in court this morning and I’m starting to doubt the strength of my convictions. If I stand next to someone who is being sent to state prison, am I not a party to it as well? I dunno. I’ll write more about that later.
