I got a call this morning at around 10 from the head of the Annalpolis legal aid office offering me the job there. She said that the Annapolis office had the right of first refusal but that the Baltimore County office was going to make me an offer on Monday. I am happy and sad at the same time. The money is pathetic, seriously pathetic. It is almost difficult for me to say yes to such an abominally low sum of money. But, I really am looking forward to working with people who are so passionate about what they do. The office has built up a really great reputation in the community and it seems that they are laid back, yet professional. I’m also looking forward to the benefits (great health insurance!). So, husband and I will both be gainfully employed. Gainfully meaning that our combined incomes will be substantially less than what I made alone last year. But to be honest, I’m happier than I was in New York. And, you are only required to work 70 hours every two weeks at Legal Aid. That’s nice, I think.

Anyway, so we’ll both be working soon and that’s that.

In other news. I signed up online for this thing called www.exercisefriends.com which is basically an online dating service for exercise people. I e-mailed this person who had a similar profile and we exchanged e-mails and we are going to meet today at noon to go walking. She just moved here from California with her fiance and doesn’t know anyone. So, I’m a little nervous for our first “date”. Wish me luck!

Our friend Heff came into town yesterday. He’s the one who helped us move here. He drove the truck and unloaded, etc. I made afghan food (chicken pilau with rice and carrots and raisins, its fancy ‘company’ rice, kofta khorma, okra, salad) and we had berries in filo with homemade whipped cream for desert. We went through several bottles of wine. The Cheeseman came over with NCJ and then my new friend IrishFro came over with her best friend who is in the FBI. Then my new friend the CuteLesbian came over later on. So, we had a little impromptu party here in Mt. Vernon. It’s nice to be able to have Heff meet our new friends and to have such a nice group in such a short amount of time. Hopefully exercise friend will be cool too. I’ll let you know.

So, this job does not dash my hopes of opening my own practice. That is still very much in the works. I think that I need to give this a go first, to get my feet wet again, especially considering I’ve had an almost five month hiatus from working and I’ve never practiced Maryland law before. I will be sure that by the time woman of the law and blondie are ready to move this way I’ll have a nice office all set up for out all female firm.

Back in Albany there were a bunch of blowhards, I mean lawyers who had this advert campaign whose slogan was “the Dream Team”. I’m thinking chick lawyers in bikinis laying draped on classic cars with briefcases, of course, and lawyer glasses and the slogan would be “the Dreamier Team”. Hehe.

Okay, time to go on my date.
